Why was Parentography created?
Noelle was planning a family trip to Hawaii and searched dozens of websites for advice and ideas for places to stay and things to do that would be fun with her one year old daughter. Which hotels had kiddie pools and cribs? Was there a beach nearby with calm surf? Were there any playgrounds aroundÉand where could they go out to eat at night and not have to ask for a seat in the kitchen away from other diners expecting a quiet meal? After a lot of effort and not much luck, Noelle made her reservations and took her chances. But, she finished the trip determined to help other parents with one of their most common and frustrating experiences: what to do with their kids in their free time.
The world needed a place where parents could gather and share their experiences about the best places and activities for their family adventures. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to visit friends and relatives in other parts of the country and already know where the best parks and playgrounds are, or be able to find out which local school had the best ballet classes, or get ideas about how to spend a cold winter afternoon when the kids are restless? That’s how the idea was born, with the goal of giving parents honest information on the best things to do, no matter where they are, from other parents with similar interests.
Noelle enlisted the help of her husband Tim and a world-class strategic design consultancy and set to work. The name Parentography was chosen because of its obvious connection to parents and its association with other words like photography, biography, and geography, all features that show up on the site. We do recognize that people besides parents will use the siteÉgrandparents, aunts, uncles, godparents, friends and other caregivers of children. That’s okay because the site is for them, too!
Parentography is a dynamic community that is always growing and changing. If you have comments, complaints or suggestions, we’d love to hear from you. You can also visit our blog to keep up to date on all of the latest Parentography developments.
