Favorite Children’s Books
Over at the GTD and productivity blog ZenHabits, there was a recent post about the best all time children’s books. The list brought back lots of memories and thoughts of the great books I’ve read and now am starting to share with my daughter. Check out their list and share your own.
Here are a few of the books I most enjoyed reading while I was growing up:
- The Missing Piece
- Where the Wild Things Are
- Corduroy
- Richard Scarry books (and finding the gold bug on each page)
- The Chronicles of Narnia
- Choose-your-own Adventure books
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas
- James and the Giant Peach
- The Hobbit
Reading to your children is one of the best things you can do as a parent, in my opinion. But, reading the same book 500 times (in a row) is somewhat less enjoyable as a parent than it was as a child!

In our house we’re big fans of
The Night Kitchen
The Paper Bag Princess
The Polar Express
Tacky the Penguin
Edward the Emu
I’ve been reading to our son since the first day he was born and even though he is 15 months old now, he’ll sit for 20-30 minutes three times a day to listen to stories. I find he sneaks into his room often to page through his books and stare at the illustrations. To keep our collection growing, I use garage sales, Ebay, and used bookstores. I agree- a love of reading is one of the best gifts you can give to your child!
