DadLabs: Traveling with Kids
DadLabs is a humorous look at parenting from the viewpoint of some Austin, TX dads. They make short videos on topics ranging from traveling with kids (I love the last tip!) to “Bathtime 101: When Kids Poop in the Tub“. They’ve also got blogs, a DVD for sale, and other practical parenting advice. If you have a few free minutes, I think the site is worth a look!
Singapore Goes Family-Friendly
The government in Singapore is funding grants to help make businesses there more family-friendly. The “Pro-Family Business Grant”, as they call their program, enables merchants to apply to receive up to S$20,000 to make their establishments more family friendly.
I think this is a splendid idea and I would be delighted to see local governments here in the U.S. take up a similar cause. Wouldn’t it be great to see restaurants, retail stores, hotels, and other businesses catering more to families — and investing capital and resources into staff training, furniture and finishings to make going out as a family less worrisome and more enjoyable? I know I’d support those companies with my business and with referrals!
The Arrow of Time
This link has been sent to me a few times recently and it really gives a powerful sense of how quickly time passes! I’m not going to give away what I’m talking about because it really is something you just have to see.
Favorite Children’s Books
Over at the GTD and productivity blog ZenHabits, there was a recent post about the best all time children’s books. The list brought back lots of memories and thoughts of the great books I’ve read and now am starting to share with my daughter. Check out their list and share your own.
Here are a few of the books I most enjoyed reading while I was growing up:
- The Missing Piece
- Where the Wild Things Are
- Corduroy
- Richard Scarry books (and finding the gold bug on each page)
- The Chronicles of Narnia
- Choose-your-own Adventure books
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas
- James and the Giant Peach
- The Hobbit
Reading to your children is one of the best things you can do as a parent, in my opinion. But, reading the same book 500 times (in a row) is somewhat less enjoyable as a parent than it was as a child!
